Biber is a pioneering project in Austria’s media landscape which is created entirely by immigrants and is published ten times per year. In German, „biber“ means „beaver“, in Serbo-Croatian „pepper“, and in Turkish it means „chili pepper“. The transcultural magazine is mainly oriented towards people with migration background and treats topics such as culture, politics, economics, lifestyle and society. It is available for free in schools, metro stations, several markets and shops.

Furthermore, biber’s „Academy“ grants scholarships to talented young journalists. They go through a two-month journalistic training. After that, biber provides an internship at a leading Austrian medium or renowned press agency or communications department. The biber Academy aims at recruiting and training the journalistic elite of a new Austria. The scholarship is endowed with Euro 600 per month.
